Facebook pointless?

Is it just me, or is facebook just a bit pointless?

I mean, cant people just try and find complete strangers the old way, on the street?

Except i always forget, on the internet, its completely fine for random people u have never seen or heard of before start talking to u. You don’t know these people, so you arent socialising, so surely they arent socialising sites, so y do people do it?

And the answers simple, because people are stupid, and lazy. They’re so lazy they cant even be bothered to go see their friends or open a different program to either email or IM them. And now u can even IM on facebook (by the way, i do know that you have been able to do this for quite a while now). I just think that its so stupid the way it promotes laziness. Okay, I know it can actually result in a friendship, but you are a lot more likely to really get to know somebody if you actually go up and talk to them. But I guess thats just me being an old fogey at the age of 18. Ho hum.

There is also the fact that like most “trendy” things, it is just a fad, like bebo, and myspace, yet now there is facebook. Yes, it has lasted a while now, and i imagine it could last a long time, but thats not to say that it wont just go away after a while like they always do. People will get bored with it, there will be something new out, people will leave and go somewhere else. Its just a fact of life, you could even say evolution, though I wouldnt put such a dramatic word to it.

There is also the fact that people are silly with details online. If you make a mistake when setting it up, your profile is open to everybody on the internet, otherwise just your friends network, which isnt particularly hard to get onto. Especially since most people have a long list of friends, a lot of which they dont know, so there is bound to be an even bigger number of people that you don’t know. Plus the fact people actually set up accounts just to find people’s details, probably a great way to fraud, all you really would need is a  name and address as well as certain information. Then you just need their email address, them to have a rubbish/no anti-virus and send them a worm. Then you have a all their information. And you could send it to everybody in their contact list. Bish bash bosh, done, hundreds of peoples information!!!
